The Ultimate

Tribute 2001

The Performance

The Ultimate Phil Collins Tribute 2001 event will consist of a 40-hour continuous drumathon. It is logistically and organisationally impractical - no matter how desirable! - to have the whole event performed entirely in live gig conditions. The performance will take place over nearly two full days; each day will include a full gig in the evening, and during the day (and overnight!) the performer will be playing solo, accompanied by backing tracks.

The two live sections will be open to the public as regular gigs, and the proceeds from tickets and programme sales will go to the BBC Children In Need Appeal. A select crew of people will assist the performer on the main section, and the whole performance will be recorded on video and audio for the judges at Guinness World of Records.

The performance will start at about 6am on November 15, with Phil playing to backing tapes. The evening of November 15 will see the first band accompany Phil onstage for the first gig. Once this gig is over, Phil will resume her playing to backing tapes until the evening of November 16, when Phil will be joined by the rest of Invisible Touch to play a second gig to complete the event.

A CD of the highlights of the show will be released after the event, and again, the proceeds from these sales will go to the BBC Children In Need Appeal. Highlights from the event will be shown on the the BBC Children In Need Appeal fundraising programme on BBC TV on November 16, 2001, and the show will also be broadcast live on the internet.
